Come and See
This is our third study from John 4 on the woman at the well, where Jesus does the unspeakable, He speaks to a Samaritan woman. Someone the world said didn't matter. The Jews hated the Samaritans and even the Samaritans would have looked down on this lady.
After she met Jesus, she left different than she came. She had walked to that well carrying a heavy jar, a daily chore like any other. But she left the jar sitting there, forgotten, and hurried back to town with a heart too full to care about water.
The disciples returned and found Jesus still standing there, talking with her. They marveled — a rabbi, speaking with a woman? But no one dared ask what he was doing or why.
The woman burst into the village, and the people could see something had changed in her. "Come," she called out, "come see a man who told me everything I ever did — even the secrets of my heart. Could he be the Messiah?" And the town began to move. People came to see this stranger for themselves.
Meanwhile, the disciples fussed over Jesus like His momma would do. "Rabbi, eat something," they urged. He smiled. "I have food to eat that you know nothing about." They looked at each other, puzzled — had anyone brought him something to eat? They didn't understand. But He had just been fed at a well in Samaria, by a woman nobody else would have talked to. Yes when He arrived, He was weary, thirsty, and hungry. And even though He hadn’t ordered any food, God refreshed Him from this conversation.
A crowd gathered around Jesus, He who had treated one forgotten woman like she mattered. And something began that day in Samaria, and it wasn't just her conversion at a well, it happened that the whole town was saved.
