THE RESURRECTION
Last Sunday we considered the cross and what our Savior did for us there as He gave his life for our sins. This Sunday we celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior. The Resurrection is widely viewed not just as a miraculous event, but as the ultimate "divine "stamp of approval" or "Amen" to everything Jesus accomplished on the cross.
If the Crucifixion was the payment for sin, the Resurrection is the receipt. It proves that the "check cleared" and that the sacrifice was sufficient and accepted by God.
If Jesus had remained in the grave, it would suggest that death (the penalty for sin) still had power over Him. By rising, He showed that the penalty was fully paid and the power of death was broken.
Throughout His ministry, Jesus made some massive claims—calling Himself the Son of God and predicting He would rise again. The Resurrection provides the proof that He was everything that He said He was. He was the great “I am” and the resurrection serves as God’s public vindication. It’s as if God was saying, "Everything He claimed about Himself and His mission is true." Without the Resurrection, the Crucifixion might have been seen as just the tragic end of a good man; with it, it becomes a cosmic victory.
The Resurrection is the moment where the "sad story" of the cross gets the ultimate happy ending—proving that life, light, and God's approval have the final word.
In short: The cross was the work; the empty tomb was the applause. He is alive!
