Proclaim His Love

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled

Today we once again come to the Holy Table of Communion. This Table, which is a rather simple table, setting at the front of our sanctuary is a constant reminder at every service of His sacrifice for us. The Table represents the table where our Savior shared the last supper with His disciples before His crucifixion.

Our communion ceremony is shared once every quarter, rather than at every service. For we do not want the Table to become common place, it is a solemn observance which we do not enter into lightly.

We do so by preparing our hearts for the sharing of the bread and the juice. By confessing and repenting of sin, by remembering the sacrifice of our Savior on the cross.

This Table speaks of His Blood which was poured out for us, His body which was given for us. The Table and Communion represent his atoning death. The cup also signifies the new covenant established through Jesus's blood. We have been instructed in God’s Word to observe Communion until He comes.

The apostle Paul warns against partaking of Communion in an unworthy manner, emphasizing the need for self-examination and reverence. In 1 Corinthians 11 he writes 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
