Overflowing With Thanksgiving
Fbc Family,
The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
When Paul wrote these words, he wasn’t in comfort or abundance. He was often in hardship, imprisonment, and difficult challenges. Yet he still said, “give thanks in all circumstances.”
Thanksgiving shouldn’t just happen on the last Thursday in November; Thanksgiving needs to be a lifestyle for us as Christians.
We often quote Romans 8:28 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. While we know and believe this, we struggle to give thanks for all things, when they are less than stellar, or the least bit challenging. Gratitude doesn’t ignore pain; it changes our perspective. When we give thanks, we choose to see God’s hand even in what we don’t understand.
Thanksgiving shifts our focus from what we lack to who we are in Christ Jesus.
True thanksgiving is not a reaction—it’s a decision to remember that every good thing comes from a faithful God (James 1:17). As we give thanks, our hearts are changed, our attitudes and even perceptions of difficult challenges, can be brought into the knowledge of a God who loves us.
Today we will consider Colossians 2:6-7 about how to overflow with Thanksgiving.
