Proclaim His Love

Elijah’s Recovery

Dec 7, 2025

Our message last Sunday was about the Blues, even the prophet Elijah dealt with the Blues. This Sunday we will continue the “Blues” study in 1 Kings 19. Finishing up this fascinating chapter. And learning more about how to deal with this phenomenon which we all inevitably must wrestle with, “The Blues”.

How do we overcome seasonal depression, how do we move forward in a time when the rhythms of life seem to slow down, the sun isn’t consistently shining?

From a biblical perspective, winter, like all seasons, reminds us of God's perfect order in creation and His faithfulness through every cycle of life. Even in its dormancy, winter speaks of a time of waiting and preparation, much like the spiritual seasons we experience.

How do we cope; we don’t lose heart, we don’t grow weary in well doing, spring will return, we continue the mission in good times and challenging times. That’s the lesson that God teaches Elijah, get over yourself and move forward, anoint others for the work, mentor someone to carry on the work. And in doing so, God will meet your needs.

For us our mission may simply be taking care of the kids, or assisting parents, going to work, attending to the rhythms of life. Listening for God’s still small voice. Remember when Elijah clearly heard God in the first part of Chapter 19 – it was His still small voice.
