Love and Marriage

This is pastor tim from Hazard First Baptist Church with Today’s Good News.

I think that most married people will agree that marriage can often be challenging. It is as though we can be less patient and even mean to the ones that we love the most, and think that they should just deal with it, because they won the prize of living with us.

Reminds me of some of the following snippy little remarks that we may say to our spouses.

A wife said to her house – you were supposed to do something about the groundhog under the deck. The husband replied, I did. I named him Lord Melbourne, by the way- he likes cocoa puffs.

One wife said that women who say getting married was the best day of their life have obviously never had 2 kitkat bars fall out of a vending machine by mistake

My wife asked me what I wanted for dinner and then told me I was wrong

My husband gets so mad when I introduce him as my first husband.

I love when I leave work early to surprise my wife at home and she greets me with those special three words- “were you fired”?

Remember those adorable idiosyncrasies you loved when you were first dating. After 20 years of marriage they become what the police refer to as “motive”

When I awoke from the car accident in a full bodycast my wife was right there beside me to let me know that childbirth is still more painful.

And lastly one woman said – I would have murdered my husband years ago, but the only place with more laundry than my house is prison.

In our marriages we certainly should be encouragers for one another, instead of people that feel that we need to point out every flaw in our spouses.

The Apostle Paul wrote about the love of Christ in Philippians 2 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

These same words can be applicable to marriage- we should be each others best encourager, we should strive to comfort each other, be affectionate, and of the same mind, with the same love and in one accord. Practice these things in your marriage and you will experience a marriage made in heaven.
