Lazy
A man told his doctor that he wasn't able to do all the things around the house that he used to do. When the examination was complete, he said, "Now, Doc, I can take it. Tell me in plain English what is wrong with me."
"Well, in plain English," the doctor replied, "you're just lazy."
"Okay," said the man. "Now give me the medical term so I can tell my wife."
We live in a world where idle time is easy to fill with electronic devices. We spend hours upon hours doing screen time. Whether it be social media or TV. Some have said that if watching TV was an Olympic sport that they would win the Netflix Marathon.
Many say that they are not lazy, they just enjoy doing nothing.
So how do we overcome this temptation to let life happen instead of making life happen for us?
There are many verses in the Bible concerning this thing of laziness. Even in the Garden of Eden, a perfect place, God instructed Adam to work the garden and keep it.
Paul wrote in Romans, don’t be slothful in zeal, but be fervent in spirit.
And in Colossians he says, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
There is great incentive to work for our Savior. And there is great reward in doing so. We don’t work for our salvation, we are motivated to work because of what the Savior has done for us, and in doing so, we will receive our reward.
Lastly Paul states in Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, we are created to work and it this we will find great reward.
I want to encourage you to join us on Friday March 29th at 6 p.m at Triangle Park for a community wide Good Friday service. With displays of the Garden of Gethsemane, the Three Crosses, and the empty tomb. Singing, monologues and preaching at each station. Come and join us as we rejoice in the work of Christ.
