Jesus' Mission Statement

Have you ever thought what it is that you hope to accomplish in life? What is the end goal of your life?

Have you ever considered writing your own mission statement, writing down what it is that you hope to accomplish in life, what it is that you want to do with your life? Some have said that they rather have a sharp stick poked in their eye than to consider writing their own mission statement;

But if you think about it- even some of our old cartoon hero’s of the 60’s had mission statements which they produced into theme songs.

There's no need to fear! Underdog is here!

speed of lightning, roar of thunder

fighting all who rob or plunder

Underdog. Underdog!

Mighty Mouse also had a mission statement- Here I come to save the day!"

That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way.

If cartoon heroes can have mission statements so can we-

But where to start? What would be a great mission statement for your life? I am not talking about what you might hear during the Ms. America pageant where the girls say to “cure world hunger” or “to promote world peace”; not anything that lofty. Just what it is that you hope to accomplish?

Mission statements were made popular by corporate America back in the early 80’s. Mission statements list 3 vital elements - our cause, our actions –and our impact.

In Luke chapter 4 we are able to review the first time that Jesus speaks about his mission statement, to hear his planned cause, planned action –and also for Him to talk about the impact that he would have. He quotes from Isaiah 61 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

What is it that you hope to accomplish in life- what will be your dash in life, the dash that we often see on tombstones- between the born date and the death date. Ask God to determine your purpose, and then set out to do it.
