2.21.24 Cancel the policy!

This is pastor tim from Hazard First Baptist with Today’s Good News.

Before we get into the good news today I want to share a Couple Stories About Marriage

After a lengthy quarrel, a man said to his wife, “You know, I was a fool when I married you.” The wife replied quickly, “Yes, but I was in love and didn’t notice it then.”

A farmer’s barn burned to the ground. While he surveyed the wreckage, his wife phoned their insurance company and asked them to send a check for $60,000—the amount of insurance on the barn. The company official explained “We don’t give you the money,”. “We replace the barn and all the equipment in it.”

“In that case,” replied the wife, “cancel the life insurance policy I have on my husband.”

On February 14, we celebrated Valentine’s Day—a day which we expressed our love for our spouses. Whenever I think of love, whenever I consider this holiday, I always reflect on the greatest Love Chapter in the Bible: 1 Corinthians 13. Every married couple ought to memorize it.

You may say, “Well, Pastor Tim, I strive to remember my spouse’s name, let alone memorizing a lengthy passage of scripture.” If that is your case, I encourage you to focus on just six words from verse 4. These six words can transform your marriage and may even transform your life:

“They are simply: ‘Love is patient; love is kind.’”

I would encourage you to post these six words on your refrigerator and etch them into your heart: “Love is patient, love is kind.”

I find that we can be patient and kind to everyone we meet—whether in public, at our offices, or on our job sites. We can tolerate others and be patient with them, even when they often irk us. Men, in particular, struggle with being patient with their wives, despite this being the most important relationship they have.

A husband once said to his wife, who was trying to train their dog, “You will never succeed in making that dog obey you.” The wife replied, “That’s nonsense! It’s only a matter of patience. Remember, I had a lot of trouble with you at first as well.”

Well guys we need to train ourselves to be patient, be kind to the ones that we love most. This is also applicable for wives.
