Sunday Morning Service
FBC Family,
Today, we’re shifting from messages of joy and thanksgiving to a topic that isn’t as bright or easy to talk about: depression. The truth is, all of us have faced times of depression at some point in our lives. As we enter the Christmas season, it’s important to remember that this time of year is one of the most common for people to struggle with depression.
Statistics show that the suicide rate is higher in December than in any other month, reminding us that Christmas depression is a real and serious issue. Feelings of sadness can be triggered by many things during the holidays—losses, failures, and loneliness often feel even heavier right now. Those who have lost a loved one, gone through a divorce, or experienced the loss of a child are especially vulnerable to depression during this season.
Some people might think that Christians shouldn’t experience depression, but that simply isn’t true. Even great men of faith like Elijah, Jeremiah, Moses, and Jonah wrestled with deep discouragement and despair.
So, how do we deal with this shadow called depression that can settle over our lives? Today, we’ll look at how Elijah, the great prophet, faced depression. After his incredible victory on Mount Carmel, it was only a few days before he found himself in a deep valley of despair.
As we study Elijah’s story, let’s remember that God cares deeply about our struggles. He meets us in our darkest moments and offers hope, comfort, and a way forward. No matter how heavy your heart may feel this season, you are not alone—and God’s Word has real help and encouragement for you.
