Proclaim His Love

Sunday Morning Service

Apr 28, 2024

Years ago there was a country music song that became very popular, it was a song that got a lot of play time especially on TV, for this song seemed to catch the emotion of the culture at that time.

This morning I thought about singing this song to you, – Yet Maxi threatened my life if I sang one more song.-some of you missed the morning that I sang the theme songs to Mighty Mouse.

The song that I am referring to is a song that most of you probably know, it was on a popular TV show that many enjoyed during that time. It was a bit of a spoof of country people, yet we as Americans enjoy laughing at ourselves. Yes, you all probably know the show that I am talking about it was Hee Haw.

-Yet this show was known for corny jokes and one liners such as

A buddy of mine told me he got a ham for his wife. --- I told him I wish I could get a deal like that.

"Grandpa, Roy said -it ain't healthy to let your pigs roam so close to the house"

Grandpa - "Well, I don't see why. We've been lettin 'em close to the house for years and we ain't had a pig get hurt yet"

One fellar said why the last argument we had- my wife screamed, "That's it! I'm leaving and goin' to my mother's".-I told her to wait for me and I'd go with her. I haven't had decent meal in months.

The song that they had which they did every show which was so popular was  “Gloom despair and agony on me”

Gloom despair and agony on me- deep dark depression - excessive misery-If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all- ohhhho Gloom, despair, and agony on me

Well today we are not going to necessarily talk about gloom, despair and agony, yet we are going to look at some Woes in our text today.

Woes are things that you want to watch out for. Things that you want to insure to keep out of your life.

In our text last week as we began our study on the beatitudes, we discovered that God’s ways and our ways are quite different. What we deem to be standard culturally acceptable attitudes- Jesus says you had better be careful about these things.

Today in Luke 6:24-26 Jesus lists 4 woes, which offset the 4 blessings which we spoke about in our text last week.

Jesus began the beatitude teachings with positive instructions, now he gives warnings which should be taken to heart, please turn with me to Luke ch 6:24-26 as we consider- Woes, Enemies and Judgement
